My Fellow Americans
On this Memorial Day weekend, amid the rush and ruckus of holiday plans and spirited campaigns, may we all take just a moment to reflect on the importance of who we are, as a community, as a people, and as a nation. The very fabric of our society is pivotal around no more important foundation than freedom and unity, given to us no more valiantly than by those who have died in our nation's service. We reflect for them, a Moment of Remembrance, Memorial Day.
Freedom, as Ronald Reagan so eloquently said, is always one generation from extinction. In fact, in today’s world, with the vociferous threat of those who oppose America, freedom could vanish in far less than a generation. Reagan called America “a shining city on a hill - to be seen by those who yearn for freedom, and to be defended against those who would destroy it”. And yet this shining city is a fortress of freedom emanating in large measure from those giving the ultimate sacrifice. For any of us who might believe that the cost of freedom is overwhelming- make no mistake, freedom is not free, and the rewards come at a far greater price than is forgettable, as we therefore do well to remember those who have given their lives for freedom to reign.
What greater gratitude to freedom can there be than to the tribute of our military men and women, who have dedicated themselves to the principles of Liberty, Freedom and Unity on a grand scale? For them, we must remember that on their shoulders is borne the battle. With and for them, we must be steadfast in our support and prayers and in the constant struggle to preserve and defend America.
On this Memorial Day weekend, let us remember that we are a grateful people endowed with pride for the ideals and heritage of a great Commonwealth, where we call Virginia home. It was Virginia that offered the resolution on Independence in 1776, with Virginian Thomas Jefferson penning its famous Declaration. It was Virginian George Mason who wrote the foundation for what became the Bill of Rights. And it is Virginia that has earned its rightful place as freedom’s guardian in the United States of America, the greatest country in the world. We are Virginians, united by freedom, standing resolute and firm, here with our fallen, on Memorial Day.
America has met every challenge with courage and faith, and because we did, freedom prevailed. Let this place, this time and this moment mark our faith, as Virginians, as Americans and as a nation possessed of the breathtaking

Thank you for all you do for America, for those that serve, and for the honor you give to those who have sacrificed all. May God Bless you, May God Bless Them, and May God Bless us all on this our noble journey through this, a Moment of Remembrance,
