RETIRED NAVY JAG AND FORMER MARINE CHUCK SMITH
ACCEPTS NOMINATION FOR UNITED STATES CONGRESS

Richmond, Virginia: Chuck Smith, a Retired Navy JAG Officer and former Marine (Infantry) officially accepts Republican nomination as 3rd District Candidate for the United States Congress in 2010. "The 3rd District deserves a Congressman who will fight for conservative values and principles that have made this nation strong", says Chuck. In his own words, Chuck says "Too long have Virginians throughout the Commonwealth sought the mantle of effective leadership through a Congressional Representative who is actually "representative" of the views and values of the district, and nowhere is the argument for that search more apparent than in the 3rd Congressional District. Chuck says, "leadership is not longevity, leadership is effectiveness, and when effectiveness ceases to exist, then longevity brings no real value."

No stranger to local politics, Chuck Smith has worked extensively with the Virginia Republican Party, from precinct captain to serving on its Executive Committee, and serving as Chairman of the Welcoming Committee (ECC) and Chairman of the Virginia Beach Republican Party. Born on July 4, 1952, in then segregated Greensboro, North Carolina, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and went on to graduate from law school in 1978 at North Carolina Central University.  After graduating from law school and serving on active duty as a Navy JAG Officer, he served  in the Navy Reserves and was promoted to rank of Commander in 1991. He has been actively involved with the Republican Party, locally, statewide and nationally.

"One of my goals is to work with all Americans on the need to get involved in making this nation, this land, this place "One Nation under God". Chuck believes that "Politics, like the American spirit, is not, and should never be, for spectators, but for all Americans", for the People, of the People and by the People.

Chuck Smith is the first African-American elected to the position of Chairman of the Virginia Beach Republican Party." My earnest desire as a leader for the 3rd District is to maintain a policy of inclusion, reaching out to all Americans, regardless of race, faith or creed," Chuck stated.
